Saturn Vue – One Step Up, Two Steps Back

Posted by ifitsgotanengine on June 8, 2007

Most car companies strive to make each successive generation of their automobiles better. Most do. Typically, new versions of cars are roomier and faster. Just look at the line of Honda Accords. Along the way, however, they end up heavier. The automakers strive to avoid this, but it happens.

The newest version of the Saturn Vue isn’t any larger than the outgoing model. This is a refreshing change, and on first look, seems to indicate that GM is finally waking up to the $3.00/gallon realities facing motorists today.

Look a little closer, and the truth rears it’s ugly head.

The new Vue is heavier than the model it replaces. The new Vue is slower than the model it replaces. The new Vue gets worse gas mileage than the model it replaces. The new Vue is more expensive than the model it replaces.

But at least it’s not any roomier.

Five Years / 100,000 Miles !!!

Posted by ifitsgotanengine on September 6, 2006

Finally. GM announced today that every 2007 GM vehicle would ship with a five year/100,000 mile warranty.

Could this be a step back to the path of profitability?

We can only hope.

It’s interesting to me that I found out about this via an e-mail from someone at Hass MS&L, GM’s marketing firm. Here’s a copy of the email I received. Did anyone else out there receive a similar note?

Hi, IIGaE. We’re trying to let people know about a major announcement from GM today. We thought you and your readers would be interested.

GM is extending its powertrain warranty to 5 years or 100,000 miles on all vehicles. The warranty is fully transferable and includes roadside assistance.

GM came to this decision in large part due to customer feedback it received on its FastLane blog. For more info, please see:

And let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your time,
